    Wedemeyer scholarships

    The second annual Charlie Wedemeyer Scholarship Awards Dinner will be held on May 17, 6 p.m., at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, and six deserving athletes will receive $5,000 scholarships.

    All of the winning athletes have overcome some sort of adversity in life, and all have given to their communities.

    Local sports celebrities expected for the awards ceremony include Ronnie Lott, Brent Jones, Peggy Fleming and Chuck Muncie. All money raised will support Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach, which reaches out to individuals and families coping with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

    Colt signups

    Signup sheets for the Los Gatos Colt summer baseball season are now being accepted. The program is open to boys ages 15-16, and registration charge is $150 per player.

    Soccer registration

    The Los Gatos United Soccer League will hold registration on May 10, 7-9 p.m., at the Daves Avenue School cafeteria.

    Players must present a copy of their birth certificate, and the registration fee is $95;

    Youth football

    Signups for the 2000 Pop Warner football season will be accepted.

    At a special registration session on May 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Mountain Mikes for players and cheerleaders.
