Dennis and Kathy Varni of Monte Sereno announce the engagement of their daughter, Susanne Rachele Varni, to Christopher Scott Ray, son of Nick Ray of Los Angeles and the late Lenore Ray.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Los Gatos High School and the University of San Diego. She is a kindergarten teacher at Saratoga Elementary School.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Van Nuys High School and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Los Gatos.

They plan a July 1998 wedding.
