Garden City Chorus sings to benefit the Wildcat Band

The San Jose Garden City Chorus is set to take its listeners on a stroll down a familiar road May 15 during "Barbershoppers on Broadway," its benefit performance for the Los Gatos High School Wildcat Marching Band.

The show, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the high school's Prentiss Brown Auditorium, sold out its recent engagement at Flint Center in Cupertino. The program features classic tunes from Broadway shows sung by various quartets as well as the 85-member chorus.

This is the eighth year the Garden City Chorus has appeared at the high school; for the past six of these years, the chorus has won the Northern California championship of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America.

The LGHS Wildcat Marching Band consists of 60 student musicians and drill team members. The band participates in the annual Los Gatos tree-lighting ceremony and Christmas parade and has won many band competitions. In 1997, members marched in the prestigious London New Year's Day Parade.

Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. For more information or advance ticket sales, call Kandee Linden at 799-4075.
