      The Prowler

If February is the month for giving valentines, then May is the month for giving flowers. In fact, according to this cat's observations, the merry month of May gives February a run for its money when it comes to acts of romance.

May Day starts the month off on a good foot with an excuse to place flowers at a sweetheart's door.

Flower power hangs around for the whole month, though, at least if the displays and sales at floral shops are any clue. Allergies notwithstanding, the Prowler loves to sniff and snoop and is always amazed at the variety of colors, types, sizes and arrangements available everywhere from large supermarkets to narrow but well-stocked corridors on N. Santa Cruz Avenue.

Speaking of N. Santa Cruz, the Prowler enjoyed an intimate dinner from a window seat in an upstairs restaurant last week and noticed an inordinate number of couples walking with hands clasped or arms around each other's waists. This vantage point also afforded a view into passing cars, many of which carried floral bouquets on the seats. Since people don't usually buy flowers a week before Mother's Day, perhaps it's just that spring is in the air.

Love was definitely in the air last week at a certain South Bay dance club, in which the Prowler witnessed a nervous young man borrow a microphone, get down on one knee and propose marriage to his agog girlfriend.

Later this month, the Prowler will witness something even more unusual and romantic--a Renaissance wedding. The happy couple was drawn together by their love for attending Renaissance Faires, so they decided to dress in traditional garb and encourage their guests to do likewise.
