Virginia 'Ginger' Drake West Valley College Theatre Arts Chairwoman Virginia 'Ginger' Drake, seen here in the heat of a theatrical moment, is among the performers giving readings at the next Friends of the Los Gatos Library's Friday Forum.

Theatrical literary readings are a part of Friday Forum

The Friends of the Los Gatos Library invite interested members of the community to attend its Friday Forum on May 18, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Los Gatos Public Library, located in the Civic Center at 110 E. Main St.

Following the Friends' brief annual meeting there will be a grab-bag of live literary presentations of shorts scenes, monologues and poetry from Shakespeare as well as from other writers both classic and contemporary. The performers include students from the West Valley College Theater Arts Department and actors--many of whom reside in the South Bay--from the West Valley Light Opera Group, Saratoga Drama Group and Theatreworks.

"This is not boring readings by guys in black turtlenecks sitting on high stools!" says Virginia "Ginger" Drake, chairwoman of the WVC Theater Arts Department.

Drake has been teaching, directing and acting at the college since 1978, holds a master's of fine arts in theater from Stanford University, and has acted with theatrical companies in New York, Nebraska, San Francisco and Palo Alto. She says she has promised the Friends that she will offer at least one dramatic reading on May 18.

There is no charge to attend the program. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 408.399.5700.
