The Wildcats advance in CCS
Both the Los Gatos baseball and softball teams will advance to the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs this week, and both will open on the road.
The Los Gatos baseball team, 15-14 for the year after a 9-9 finish in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, will visit Sacred Heart Cathedral (13-10-1) on May 17, 4 p.m. The winner will meet the Sequoia (14-8)-Monterey (24-5-1) winner on Saturday, 10 a.m., in the CCS quarterfinals at Washington Park in
Santa Clara.
The Cats won their CCS berth by nailing wins over Monta Vista (19-2) and Cupertino
(6-2) in the final week of the regular season.
The Los Gatos girls will take a 13-13 up against Burlingame
(20-8) on May 16, 3:30 p.m., at Hawes Field in Redwood City. The winner will meet Westmont (19-10) on Saturday, noon, at PAL Stadium in the CCS quarterfinals.
Los Gatos lost a 5-3
11-inning heartbreaker to Santa Clara last week, but battled back with a
5-0 win over Monta Vista to climb to 13-13 for the year and qualify for a CCS berth.
All-star football
Football's finest
high school seniors
will be back on the field this summer when the 27th annual Silicon Valley Youth Classic Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game returns
to the Santa Clara
Valley.
The tradition will continue when the game, hosted by the Rotary Club of Almaden Valley, is played on July 25, 7:30 p.m., but the location will be brand new. For the first time, the game will be played at the Independence High School stadium in East San Jose.
LGLL sponsors needed
The Los Gatos Little League is looking for businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring teams for the 2001 season.
The league season is already under way with more than 800 boys and girls from the community participating in the program. Sponsorships are $150 for T-ball, $250 for the minor division and $500 for the major division.

Volleyball split
The Los Gatos boys volleyball team opened the Central Coast Section playoffs with an easy win over Redwood Christian, but the Wildcats dropped their next match to Bellarmine to face elimination from the tournament.
The Cats rolled to a lopsided 15-8, 15-3, 15-2 win over Redwood but lost 15-0, 15-3, 15-13 to the Bells to see their season come to a close. The Wildcats finished the 2001 season with a solid 20-10 record.
