Dr. Daniel G. Vaughan of Monte Sereno died on April 10, of a stroke during his battle with cancer. He was 79.
Born on March 15, 1921, in Montana, he graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School and served as a medical officer in the First Marine Division in China from 1946 to 1947. He then completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco and opened a private practice in San Jose.
During his long career, he served as a clinical professor of ophthalmology at UCSF and co-authored General Ophthalmology, a manual that is considered the "bible" of ophthalmology for most American medical students and physicians, and has been translated into five languages.
