Los Gatos students named to dean's lists
Several Los Gatos and Monte Sereno residents were named to the dean's list at their respective colleges across the country for their academic achievement in the fall semester or winter quarter. Students must achieve a GPA of 3.50 or better.
Those named are Christopher Dean, a senior economics major at Denison University in Ohio, Sacha Kang at Columbia University in New York and Molly Vaden, a freshman fine- and applied-arts major at the University of Oregon.
French Tahitian students to come to Los Gatos
The International Hospitality Center is bringing students from French Tahiti to Los Gatos on July 8 for a three week visit. Barbara Bancel, director of the Honolulu-based cultural exchange program, IHC, will be in Los Gatos on May 15, to increase awareness of this international service.

LGHS merit scholar finalists selected
Eight students from Los Gatos High School were chosen as National Merit Scholar finalists. To become a finalist, students must have an outstanding academic record, be recommended by their school principal, and submit SAT scores and a detailed scholarship application.
The finalists are Katherine Bui, Jesse Clark, Rebecca Dodson, Rebecca Fong, Sangeeta Rana, Alex Toy and Ailinh Tran.
Also recognized as National Merit Commended Students for their scores on last year's PSAT exam are 24 LGHS seniors; Taran Barca-Hall, Kevin Carney, Anastasia Chang, Ted Chang, Timothy Chen, Chris Choi, Michael Clark, Mika Clark, Sara Clark, Steven Falkenhagen, Annmarie Farnady, Ross Halper, Stone Hsu, Grace Kay, Leif Linden, Tim Odell, Jacob Perkins, Phil Roan, Seamus Ryan, Christine Schildt, Adam Siegel, Robin Swab, Mark Vyhnal and Alexander White.
LGHS student wins Bank of America first place
LGHS student Zoe Segnitz was among 32 seniors from Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties awarded a Bank of America Achievement Award this month. Segnitz, who was honored for her work in fine arts, was one of only four student to win a first place award of $2,000.
Students were chosen based on written statements and a panel of judges.
Los Gatos student a Goldwater scholar
Anna Arnaudo, a biology student at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, has been awarded a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. Arnaudo was one of 50 students selected from 1,176 applicants nationwide on the basis of academic merit. The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year for one to two years.
Arnaudo plans to do biological research during the summers and go on to post-graduate studies.
