Open Juried Art Show

Villa Montalvo hosts 'The Expressionists'

    The Prowler

As is the case each spring, young cats' and dogs' fancies turn to thoughts of love. But spring also brings litters of kittens and puppies--adorable but often an unwanted burden. Not surprisingly, the Prowler's friends at the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley have the most mouths to feed during spring and summer. That's why the HSSCV holds its annual Puppy and Kitchen Chow Drive. Canned wet food, dry kibbles and puppy and kitten milk are all welcome. Donations may be dropped off at 2530 Lafayette St. in Santa Clara. For more info, call 408.727.3383 ext. 854.

Because this cat also cares about young ones from the human race, please make note of Kids Day America/Inter-national, which focuses on health, safety and environmental awareness. Held on May 20, the day is celebrated locally by Dr. Jeff Cobbs, the back-cracker at Freedom Chiropractic, 15466 Los Gatos Blvd, Suite 209.

From noon to 3 p.m., Cobbs will provide free info on crime prevention, child safety and environmental awareness. His office will give away Child I.D. cards, the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department will conduct free fingerprintings, and Los Gatos firefighters will teach fire safety tips and let kids check out their fire truck. As if all this weren't enough, the Prowler hears that free balloons, snacks and prize drawings are also on tap, not to mention scoliosis screenings.

Mark your calendars now for the fourth annual Mountain Art Guild Show, set for June 10 and 11, at the Loma Prieta Community Center, 23800 Summit Road. More than 30 artists using every possible medium are exhibiting. There's also wine-tasting, food and live music! For info, call 408.399.1830.
