Los Gatos Little League

Summer wrestling, hoop camps for kids at LGHS

The end of the school year is near, and it's time for young athletes to start making plans for the summer.

Los Gatos High School will host a pair of summer sports camps in June and July for young people interested in improving their skills in wrestling and basketball.

    Wrestling Camp

The 11th annual Wildcats Wrestling Camp returns to Los Gatos High School for three sessions in June and July.

Camp sessions include: June 26-30 for beginners to intermediates ages 7-12 (wrestlers with no experience or just one year of camp experience); July 3-7 for intermediates in grades 6-9 (wrestlers with one or two years of junior high experience); and July 10-14 for advanced campers in grades 8-12 (wrestlers with two years of junior high or one year of high school experience).

Camp hours are 1:30-4:30 p.m. daily, and the $110 fee per week includes instruction, games, wrestling videos, snacks and a T-shirt.

Veteran wrestling coach Scott Downs is the camp director, with Los Gatos High head coach Jeff Garlick the head instructor. Fisher coach John Gizelbrook and C.T. English coach Kyle Hand are members of the coaching staff.

For more information, call Downs at 408.354.2730, ext. 259, or at 408.395.8126.

    Basketball Camp

Los Gatos varsity basketball coach Jim Marino will host the annual Wildcat Summer Basketball Camps June 19-23 and June 26-30 in the high school gym.

The camps, open to players ages 7-15, stress fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play.

A camp for players ages 13-15 will be held June 19-23, 1-3 p.m. each day. The cost is $50 for the one-week session.

Camps for players ages 7-12 are set for June 19-23, 9 a.m.-noon, and June 26-30, 1-4 p.m. The cost for each session is $85 per player.

Each participant receives a camp T-shirt, and the camps features guest appearances by many of the top coaches in the Bay Area.

For more information, call Marino at 408.354.2730, ext. 269.
