Wildcats win track championships

Los Gatos Little League

    Volleyball team falls at CCS

    By Dick Sparrer

The 2000 season came to an abrupt halt for the Los Gatos boys volleyball team last week.

The Wildcats lost a five-game heartbreaker to Harbor in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs to fall out of the competition.

The Wildcats, who boast a history of success at the section level, lost a tough 10-15, 15-11, 15-1, 16-18, 15-12 decision to Harbor in the first round of the tournament. Harbor went on to lose in four games to Homestead.

Los Gatos had finished first in CCS in 1997, second in 1998 and third in 1999 before losing in the first round this season.

Seniors Jason Cardoso, Andrew Holcomb, Greg Blevins, Kevin Krug, Mike Walleen, Adam Stephenson and Nate Sweeters were each playing their final match for the Cats.

Heading up the cast of returners for the Wildcats in the 2001 season will be juniors Brian Starr, David Conkle and Robert Handy; sophomores Mason McKown, Michael Conry, Max Haueter, Neil Perry, Mike McDowell and Scott Stephenson; and freshmen Derek Tam and Shaun Sullivan.
