    Seeking former football all-stars

It was the summer of 1974 when a football game called the Santa Clara County All-Star Bowl debuted on the turf at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium.

Since that time, it has grown to become a summer classic for high school football all-stars, and the event, now known as the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game, returns this summer for its 25th anniversary game.

To celebrate, game organizers--the Almaden Valley Rotary Club--invite all former all-star players and coaches to attend this year's game, set for Friday, July 23, at Spartan Stadium.

For more information, and for former players and coaches to reserve their place at the event, write to All-Star Events, P.O. Box 20933, San Jose (95160), or send a fax to 268-2960.

    Gunners Soccer

The Los Gatos Gunners, a boys under-16 Class 3 soccer team, is looking for goalkeepers and defenders for the coming season. For information, call Tony Cuschieri at 354-3140.

    Volleyball League

Registration is under way for an eight-week instructional volleyball league season that will run May 22-July 31 at Los Gatos High School.

The league, part of the United States Youth Volleyball League, is open to boys and girls ages 8-14, and the registration fee of $80 includes instruction, practices, games, a uniform top and USYVL and USA Volleyball membership.

    For more information, call 1-888-98-USYVL.

    Junior Tennis

Registration is under way for Junior League Team Tennis in Saratoga. USTA-Team Saratoga will field teams in the 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 15-and-under and 18-and-under age groups.

    For more information, call 354-0777.
