Los Gatos Weekly-TimesScrabble players come to town for a 'cat fight'Writers, poets, wordsmiths and others with a love for language--and games--are convening in Los Gatos over the long Memorial Day weekend for a Scrabble tournament dubbed the "Cat Fight." At the Los Gatos Lodge May 24-26, players from California and other states will compete for cash prizes, the total of which could exceed $3,000, depending upon the number of entries. From aa (a cindery type of lava) to zyzzyva (a tropical weevil rarely observed in California), players with the ranks of novice, recreational, intermediate and expert will learn and share many new and unusual vocabulary words. Tournament play is similar to games played on the kitchen table, with the main difference being the presence of a timer--and prize money. For more information, call tournament director Rich Moyer at 395-4006.
