Pier 1 Imports to dock at Blossom Hill Pavilion

After a year of standing vacant, the building that once was Super Crown Books is being remodeled to house Pier 1 Imports.
Work began last week on that area of Blossom Hill Pavilion, located at the corner of Blossom Hill Road and Los Gatos Boulevard. Construction will make the interior of the 11,000-square-foot building resemble the other stores of the nationwide chain, which sells exotic gifts and furniture.
Marty Woodworth, the town's redevelopment agency manager, said the town is looking forward to the store's opening, projected for September.
"It's a high-profile national retailer that should attract a lot of customers," Woodworth said. "Basically it'll serve as an anchor for the other stores in the center." Center neighbors include Hollywood Video, Starbucks and Jamba Juice.
"It's a prime location there," Woodworth said, noting its visibility and proximity to major streets in town.
Leasing agent Dave Taxin, from the firm Meacham Oppenheimer Inc., said the lease was signed almost five months ago. It took the first part of the year, however, for Pier 1 corporate officials to obtain all the necessary permits and get approval for their plans.
Construction, which began the week of May 13, will take approximately four months, Taxin said.
Super Crown announced its plans to close 28 of its stores across the nation in January 2001, including the Los Gatos location. The retailer did not vacate the building until the spring, after the inventory had been liquidated.
