Monte Sereno holds barbecue for residents

Monte Sereno will celebrate its 44th anniversary by holding a citywide barbecue on May 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the city hall. Mayor Barbara Nesbet and other city council members will be present, as well as city staff members. Residents who would like to participate in a "Best cookies in Monte Sereno" competition must bring two dozen of their "secret recipe" cookies.

The barbecue is free and kids' activities will be held. To RSVP, call 408.354.7635.

Shir Hadash gets town OK to renovate

Shir Hadash, the Shannon Road synagogue and Jewish school, received town approval to add 400 square feet to an existing classroom building. The Los Gatos Planning Commission approved the modification of the conditional-use permit on May 9, allowing the addition, as well as correcting the existing permit to allow more students and staff on the campus.

Shir Hadash staff said that students usually walk to Blossom Hill School on Sundays for class, because of a lack of space at Shir Hadash. With the addition, Shir Hadash will add more classrooms and be able to hold all classes on-site.

    Habitat for Humanity plan delayed

The Habitat for Humanity house planned for Charles Street has stalled due to boundary disagreements with neighbors. While Habitat for Humanity has met with an architect and engineer, and will submit design plans to the town in the next few weeks, it is trying to settle the boundary dispute with the neighbors.
