The Prowler
Feels like summery weather is finally settling in, doesn't it? Not only does the Prowler think so, but this cat also thinks it's time to leap up on the old soapbox to remind folks about dogs in cars.
Animal advocate Leslie Baikie-Khavari at the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley had this to say in a recent note to the Prowler: "As temperatures rise, we need to caution people that leaving their pet in a parked car on a warm day can be a deadly mistake!" This cat learned that, in a worse-case scenario, temps can climb as high as 120 degrees, even with the windows partly down. Unlike some felines, this one has some canine friends to worry about, so please, dog owners--take care of your pets!
Speaking of warm weather, the Prowler is excited about Go Outside and Play Day, a June 9 event sponsored by the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department. On that day, all 28 county parks will waive their entry fees and give away frisbees, magnets and bumper stickers. Here in Los Gatos we have Vasona Lake County Park, Lexington Reservoir and Los Gatos Creek, while down the road in Saratoga is Sanborn-Skyline County Park. Call 408.358.3741, or visit www.parkhere.org.
Speaking of our Saratoga neighbors, the Prowler just got news of a new exhibit at Aegis Gallery of Fine Art, at 14531 Big Basin Way in the Saratoga Village. From May 26 through June 30, Sunnyvale artisan Janett Peace will show an amazing array of blown-glass art, from paperweights to crystalline sculptures. She's wryly titled her installation "No Bare Feet." A public reception for the artist takes place on June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.
