The space-age gap
Old and young don't always see eye-to-eye

I was trying to describe one of my boyhood heroes to one of today's youngsters recently.
"His name was Charles A. Lindbergh."
"Linbur?"
"Lindburgh. We called him 'Lucky Lindy.'"
"Who's he?"
"In 1927, Lindy made the first trans-Atlantic solo flight from New York to Paris in the Spirit of St. Louis."
"What's that?"
"The Spirit of St. Louis was a Wright-powered, single-engine, propeller-driven Ryan monoplane in which Lindy took off from Roosevelt Field, Long Island, New York, on May 20 to stay aloft for 33 hours and 39 minutes, before he landed at..."
But the rest of my explanation was lost as the youngster dropped a plastic bubble helmet over his head, zipped up his moon suit and zapped me with his laser gun.
