Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe ProwlerAlthough this cat has all the qualities possessed by Beanie Babies--cuteness, furryness, a unique name and personality--the Prowler must admit there's just something about the beanbag critters that makes them so engaging and collectible to the point of obsession. Being a curious cat, the Prowler checked on the results of the May 16 drawings held at The Wooden Horse toy store for two rare, limited-edition Beanies: the purple-and-white-robed Princess Di Bear and the green-furred Irish lass named Erin Bear. Eager collectors bought more than 4,500 raffle tickets at $1 each. Store owner Karen Benz Scarvie donated all proceeds to Eastfield Ming Quong and its childen's center. EMQ serves thousands of children, teenagers and their families with a spectrum of programs addressing mental health and substance abuse. The real Diana would be proud to know her name is still helping those in need. Speaking of generosity, the nonprofit Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley has begun an auto-donation program. It doesn't matter how old or ugly your car, truck or camper is--as long as it's in working order, the Humane Society wants it. All donations are tax-deductable--they take care of the paperwork--and they sell the vehicles to raise funds for their programs. For more info, call 727-3383 ext. 872. No need for the Humane Society to help the lovable mutt known as Sandy, because he's well taken care of by everyone's favorite orphan: Annie! An adaptation of the hit Broadway musical runs through May 31 at Theater in the Mountains, located at 23800 Summit Road. Call 353-9999 for show times and prices.
