Los Gatos Weekly-TimesCourtside's new owners plan expansion, upgradeWestern Athletic Clubs, which in April purchased Courtside, the athletic club at 4675 Winchester Blvd., has plans to expand and upgrade the facility. The new owners are in the early stages of the town's planning process on the improvements. The club wants to construct a new building and an outdoor family pool area that will replace two tennis courts, according to General Manager Sandy Hoeffer. That would leave the club with 15 outdoor courts and four indoor courts. The new pool would allow for separate swimming areas: one for families with children and one for adults only. The club will expand day-care services and offer sports and recreation for children, as well as an expanded fitness center and a new cafe. A new day spa is to be added to the existing building after the expansion. The new building will also house yoga, tai chi and stretching classes and offices and conference facilities for the club's staff. Additionally, the exterior of the existing building will get a touch-up, including a new roof. The club will also start calling itself a "sports resort," although no hotel facilities are planned. Western Athletic Clubs owns nine clubs in the Bay Area and Seattle, including the Decathlon Club in Santa Clara and the San Jose Athletic Club. Hoeffer said the work at Courtside should be finished within 12 months.
