Major division teams who made Little League playoffs

One season has ended, but another begins for the teams of the Los Gatos Little League major division.

The Little League teams wrapped up the regular season last weekend, but will begin their championship tournament with a full slate of games this week.

The tourney opens May 27 when the Marlins (5-12) and Rangers (6-12) collide in the 5 p.m. game that matches the ninth- and 10th-place teams.

The winner moves on to a 5:30 p.m. game on May 30 against the first-place Padres (17-2).

The seventh and eighth place teams will play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. That winner advances to a 5:30 p.m. game on May 29 against the second-place A's (12-6).

The two other first-round games are set for May 28, when the fourth- and fifth-place teams meet at 5 p.m. and the third- and sixth-place teams square off at 6 p.m.

Third through eighth place had not been decided as late as Sunday. Only two games remained, but the outcome of those games would have a tremendous effect on the first-round matchups in the playoffs.

Division standings as of Saturday were: Padres 17-2, A's 12-6, Expos 9-9, Indians 9-9, Pirates 9-9, Yankees 8-9, Giants 8-10, Cubs 7-10, Rangers 6-12, Marlins 5-12.
