Strawberry Festival moves to West Valley

The Eastfield Ming Quong Strawberry Festival will take place in Saratoga June 7-8. The festival, set in Los Gatos since 1960, will relocate this year to West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Tom Campbell announces town hall meetings

Congressman Tom Campbell will conduct 11 town hall meetings within the 15th District during June. Each meeting includes a brief update on the business of the 105th Congress, but Campbell plans to spend most of each meeting answering constituent questions.

The following meetings will take place in the West Valley:

June 14, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Fisher Middle School, 17000 Roberts Road.

June 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Rolling Hills Middle School, 1585 More Ave. in Campbell.

June 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Saratoga High School, 20300 Herriman Ave., Saratoga.

Tax refunds available for elderly, disabled

An estimated 160,000 elderly and disabled homeowners and renters are eligible for tax refunds this summer through the state Homeowner and Renter Assistance Program.

To qualify, claimants must be at least 62 years old, blind or disabled and must have earned less than $13,200 during 1996. Homeowners can receive up to $326. Renters can receive up to $240.

Refund checks will be mailed after the 1997-98 state budget is passed.
