The Prowler
Remember Festival Theatre Ensemble, the nonprofit troupe that's been hankering for a summertime Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival? Its fundraising arm, Friends of Los Gatos Community Theater, has already held two local fundraisers: a murder mystery dinner and a Renaissance festival, both of which the Prowler is proud to have publicized.
It looks like things are a go, because now the ensemble is holding auditions for its apprenticeship program, which is open to all teenagers ages 15 to 19. The program, which runs Saturdays from June 22 through July 27, offers intensive training in acting, stage combat and period dance. All classes are taught by ensemble actors, choreographers and directors. The program culminates in a July 27 evening performance as part of the festival.
Auditions take place June 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Loose Hall, 550 Hubbel Way, and June 6 at Los Gatos High School. Other opportunities may be available to teens who cannot attend these days. Program tuition is $500 per student. For more information, call Jennifer Selden at 831.476.5390.
Speaking of entertainment, Los Gatan Erna Schloh--wife of longtime local architect E. Gary Schloh--is giving a concert and lecture on Frederic Chopin May 31 at the Saratoga Foothill Club, 20399 Park Place in Saratoga. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is sponsored by Los Gatos Chamber Music, a local orchestral group. Erna holds bachelor's degrees in music and law from the University of Chile (in her native country), as well as a master's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Sounds like she's very serious about her craft!
