Ferrari of LG emerges from bankruptcy After a long and often contentious legal battle, Ferrari of Los Gatos is out of bankruptcy and under new ownership. Marc Chase, who also owns an exotic-car dealership in La Jolla, was the highest bidder in February, when a federal bankruptcy court auctioned off the dealership. It had been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since 1994. Chase paid just over $1 million for the dealership--which didn't include any cars. After the bankruptcy court approved the sale at the end of March, Ferrari of North America kept the transfer tied up in a federal appellate court for almost two months. Attorneys for Ferrari of North America called Chase unfit to run the dealership and used a litany of reasons to try to block the sale. Ferrari of North America, which made the lowest bid for the dealership, has been dropping the supply of cars to Los Gatos for years and, according to an attorney for the dealership's creditors, has delivered only one in 1998. But Chase, who says his company is the largest dealer of used Ferraris in the world, adds that he'll start by bringing in used cars from his dealership in Southern California. Chase also says he plans to remodel the showroom, located at 66 E. Main St.
