    It's all about attitude

At Axis Personal Trainers and Spa, it's high-end, high-energy and high results. Opened on May 8, in Los Gatos, Axis is Silicon Valley's answer to the fitness craze.

"No teeny-boppers running around in G-strings," says Steve Saxe, facility leader and former Stanford University strength and conditioning coach. "We really want to change the face of fitness and what people think of personal training."

Gone are crowded locker rooms, roaming instructors and see-through body suits. In their place is one-on-one training with fitness experts, massage, facials and other bodily services and corporate T-shirts.

The Los Gatos facility is Axis' first expansion from its wildly successful Menlo Park facility. Started by trainer Scott Morton and Christine Borders, the 20-something daughter of Borders Inc. co-founder Louis Borders, the clientele from its start featured big names in high tech.

Saxe says the Los Gatos facility already has its share of high-tech exercise buffs, as well as soccer moms and elderly medical referrals. All clients come in on an appointment-only basis, paying close to $60 an hour to work with instructors on state of the art equipment.

"It's a really high-end facility where we offer a variety of spa services, as well as world-class trainers," Saxe says. The nine trainers specialize in sports, as well as couch-potato rehabilitation for the individual who is just starting to work out. From the level of intensity to end goals, all programs are individualized.

Spa services include facials, massage, a relaxation room and body treatments. Saxe adds that one of the massage therapists is also a trained physical therapist.

"It's a playground for adults," Saxe says.

Axis Personal Trainers and Spa is at 536 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Call 408.399.7521, or visit them at www.axispt.com for information.
