'Silence Matters' at Villa Montalvo

St. Luke's plans a summer series of classical concerts

St. Luke's Episcopal Church, at 20 University Ave. in downtown Los Gatos, will bring back its popular Sunset Series of summertime concerts. The series begins on June 24, with the Palo Alto-based Trio Jubilee, consisting of pianist Su Mi Park, violinist Claudia Bloom and cellist Eun Ock Song. The July 7 concert features father/daughter duo Rex Cooper on piano and Kristina Reiko Cooper on cello. Kristina is a resident of New York City and has performed throughout Europe and Japan. Rex is a piano professor at the University of the Pacific and performs there frequently. Kristina's grandmother is an active St. Luke's parishioner and is responsible for bringing the duo to the Sunset Series.

On July 22, San Francisco's up-and-coming Cypress String Quartet performs pieces by Mozart, Dvorak and Panufnik. The last concert, a family program, is a performance by the San Jose Brass Quintet Plus One on Aug. 19. The first part of the concert will be scripted especially for children. After intermission, the young children will be able to watch videos or participate in supervised activities while their parents listen to more music.

All concerts begin at 8 p.m., except the family concert, which begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens. Children 12 and younger are free. Advance tickets purchased for two or more concerts are available at a discount. Admission includes refreshments served in the St. Luke's garden. All members of the community are welcome. Baby care is available at all concerts. For more information, call 408.395.1541.
