So that means it's just about time for the kids to get out of school, then spend the better part of three months looking for something to do. Well, there's no reason for kids to sit idly by through the summer months, not with the many summer sports camps that are available for longer youngsters. Some upcoming area camps include: WVC Basketball Camp The annual West Valley College Boys Basketball Camp returns to the school's Saratoga camp this summer with sessions for boys ages 8-16 to run June 22-July 1. Boys ages 13-16 will attend the camp from 9:10 to 11:10 a.m., and boys ages 8-12 will attend from 11:20 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. The cost is $85 per player per sessions. Wildcat Basketball Camp The Los Gatos Wildcat Summer Basketball Camp returns to the Los Gatos High School gym June 15-19 under the direction of Gatos varsity coach Jim Marino. Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon for players ages 7-12 and 1-3 p.m. for players ages 13-15. The registration fee is $50 for the one-week session. The camp will emphasize fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play with daily drills and games. The camp will also feature appearances by guest coaches from throughout the Bay Area. The camp will conclude with individual competitions, and gifts and prizes on the final day. Olympian Softball Camp The Olympian School of Softball will host a girls' fast-pitch camp June 15-18, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. each day, at Los Gatos High School. Lisa Mize, a member of the 1996 Summer Olympic team, and Los Gatos varsity coach Martha Lebron will serve as instructors at the camp. Hitting, bunting, infield and outfield play, pitching and catching will be covered at the camp. The cost is $100 per player, and all campers receive a T-shirt. For more information, call 374-8842. LG Wrestling Camp The ninth annual Wildcat Wrestling Camp will return to Los Gatos for three sessions this summer. The camp begins with a session for beginner to intermediate wrestlers, ages 7-12, on June 29-July 3. The second session is for intermediate wrestlers in grades 6-9, and it runs July 6-10. The final session is set for July 13-17 for advanced wrestlers (those with high school or two years of junior high school experience) in grades 8-12. Camps run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and the cost is $110 per week. Each session is limited to the first 26 wrestlers. For more information, call Scott Downs at 354-2730. Williams Camp The annual Sid Williams Basketball Camp returns to the court at Fisher Middle School July 13-17. The camp is designed for "the motivated player" entering the fifth-ninth grades. Session I will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. each days for boys and girls entering fifth and sixth grades. Session 2 for boys and girls going into the seventh-ninth grades will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 358-9323. Golden Eagle Summer Camp The annual Golden Eagle Summer Sports Camps for youngsters ages 5-14 will be held June 15-July 31, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. each day, at Pioneer, Homestead and Saratoga high schools under the direction of Nelson and Monica Lodge. Giants Youth Baseball Camp Former San Francisco Giants second baseman Rob Andrews will head up the San Francisco Giants Youth Baseball Camps that will be held this summer at various Bay Area locations. There will be a Giants Youth Camp held June 22-26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino. The camp is open to players ages 8-12, and the cost is $215 per player. An advanced training class for players ages 10-12 will be held June 29-July 3 at Monta Vista. The cost is $215. The camp features instruction according to age groups. Call 1-800-442-6874.
