Los Gatos native Elton Anthony Green died on May 23, in a Sunnyvale nursing home. He was 91.
Green was born Nov. 26, 1908, in the family home on Pennsylvania Avenue to George Green and Edith Stahl Green. His father owned Green's Pharmacy in Los Gatos from 1904 until 1947. Green graduated from University Avenue School--where he was a student of the late Louise Van Meter--and from Los Gatos High School, where he played varsity football for the Wildcats.
He attended San Jose State University intermittently for several years, eventually graduating from UC-Berkeley's School of Commerce in 1933. Between 1931 and 1933, he also participated in rowing and rowed with the California Crew.
In 1936, Green married Otillia Bertha Kron, who predeceased him in 1960. In 1961, he married Maybelle Parker Jopling, who died in 1999. From 1936 to 1949, Green managed the New Idria Quicksilver Mine in San Benito County. He then worked as a car dealer in Santa Cruz until 1954, followed by his involvement in various businesses in the Santa Clara Valley until his 1980 retirement. He was an avid yachtsman until 1991, when he could no longer climb the mast of his boat.
Survivors include sons Michael Green of Oakland and Stephen Green of Goshen, N.Y.; grandson Stephen Green of Bethlehem, Pa.; granddaughters Colleen Green of Washington, D.C., Arial Green of Healdsburg and Mari Robinson of Lafayette; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews, including Karen Fishback and William Kron, both of Los Gatos.
