Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe ProwlerYou learn something new every day. The Prowler knows that sounds trite, but as is often the case with cliches, it also happens to be true. It's particularly true around Los Gatos in the next few weeks. A case in point is the summer series of children's workshops offered at the Wild Bird Center, located in the King's Court Center on Blossom Hill Road. On June 17, kids ages 4 and older can play a bird-call game, watch an avian puppet show, listen to two stories--If You Should Hear a Honey Guide and Alejandro's Gift--and plant their own "gift" to take home. Cost is $2 per child. On June 24, kids 6 and older learn "if you build it, they will come" as they construct backyard birdfeeders. The Prowler has learned this, too, being an attentive bird-watcher (but not a bird-eater). Finches, mourning doves, towhees, robins and scrub jays seem particularly common in these parts. Cost is $8, and space is limited. Call 358-WILD to reserve a kid-sized spot. Speaking of wildlife, why not learn how to swing? The Cajun Dance Club at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos is again hosting a dance party. Last time it was the spicy Red Beans & Rice Band; this time it's the West Coast Swing Allstars Band, who perform up-tempo tunes. Admission is $10. Call 356-1375 for more info. For those seeking more introspective forms of entertainment and learning, stop by the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Co. to view recent watercolors by Los Gatan Nancy Scott Jerome. An award-winning artist who's exhibited in several South Bay venues, Jerome uses art to celebrate the individual and evoke images of peace, harmony and home.
