Meta George wins Unitarian award

Los Gatos High School senior Meta George received this year's Los Gatos Unitarian Fellowship Memorial Scholarship for $500.

To qualify for the scholarship, each applicant had to complete an application and an essay on "What is the most important problem in the United States today?" The committee also based selection on outstanding academic and artistic achievement, community involvement and a wide range of extracurricular activities.

George, who has a 3.92 grade-point average, has been involved in nine different theatrical productions at her school. She has also volunteered for the Los Gatos Recreation Department since her freshman year.

The scholarship, in its third year, is funded primarily by money collected at memorial services, Levy said.
