The Prowler

It's been a few months since the Prowler last rambled about the funny or strange personalized license plates seen around town, so here's another reprise.

Perhaps it's pure coincidence, but this cat notices more of these plates in Los Gatos than elsewhere. But then again, our town is home to many artists and other creative people concerned about the arts, music and humanities.

One of the Prowler's favorite haunts--N. Santa Cruz Avenue--is also one of the best places to spot plates. Being a nearsighted feline, the Prowler couldn't see if the woman driving 1 GABY was holding a drink or a cell phone, but judging from the license plate, this cat suspects the woman likes to talk!

There was no one around the parked white sport-utility vehicle named BIGNOSE, so the Prowler couldn't decide if the reference was to the driver's sniffer or to the rather blunt front grill of the lumbering vehicle.

Ever seen those cool plates with heart, star or hand symbols in place of a letter or number? The Prowler saw one and wishes more people shared the driver's optimistic attitude. The plate read: I[love]MYLIF, with a heart in place of the word love. Sorry--some things can't be typed on a keyboard!

The driver of PSYCHME, spotted on a hot red sports car on Highway 85, is no doubt pretty psyched about something. Can't say the same about STYGIAN, though, also seen on a red sports car on 85. An adjective referring to the River Styx in Greek mythology, stygian means hellish or gloomy. It can also mean something binding and inviolable--oaths were sworn at the Styx. Perhaps these are both wry references to the driver's monthly car payments?
