Four students win prizes in essay contest

    The Prowler

Even a literary feline like the Prowler is occasionally at a loss for witty words with which to begin a column. So without wasting time and space on a rambling prelude, here is a list of fun stuff this cat has heard will be happening in the near future.

Parents seeking ways to entertain their children without the money and commitment of camp or summer school can take them to the Los Gatos Library's free Thursday afternoon programs, generally geared toward kids 10 and younger. The next three programs are storyteller Diane Ferlatte on June 24, Diane Otter's "Sillies of the Sea" presentation on July 1 and fun tunes by singer Bonnie Lockhart on July 8.

It's also not too late to join the Summer Reading Club, whose theme this year is "Dive into Books: Reading is Deep." After signing up and completing 10 books, youngsters can earn a surprise packet. For all the details on what's going down at the library, call 354-6891.

Just down the street at the Neighborhood Center, the Los Gatos Adult Education and Recreation Department's Senior Program has organized a workshop for women of all ages, titled Mothers & Daughters. Led by Bay Area therapist Sonia Crommie, this four-hour program on July 10 gives women an opportunity to explore the relationships between mothers and daughters, discover how this relationship shapes the feelings they have about themselves and helps them learn to get closure on unresolved family issues.

All women are invited to attend, whether or not they come with their mothers or daughters. The Neighborhood Center is at 208 E. Main St. Class fee is $45. To register, or for more information, call 354-8700.
