Fredricks directs business development for contractor

Teralyn Fredricks, a Los Gatos native, is now director of business development for Ranger Construction Inc., a general contracting company based in San Jose.

Fredricks, who holds a bachelor's degree in business, is responsible for all aspects of business development for the company, including communication and customer relations. Her previous business development and marketing experience includes work in the architectural, construction, real estate and property management fields.

Gallery photographer wins national award

Polar Dance: Born of the North Wind, a book of photographs by Thomas D. Mangelsen, was chosen by Independent Press magazine as the best coffee-table/gift book of 1997. It was also a finalist for a Benjamin Franklin Award in the nature and gift book categories from the Publishers Marketing Association. Mangelsen owns the Images of Nature chain of galleries, one of which is located in Los Gatos.

Polar Dance features photographs of a mother polar bear, her two cubs and a lone male bear as they move through the seasons of an Arctic year.

It took Mangelsen nearly 10 years' worth of trips to shoot the more than 85,000 photographs he sorted through in selecting images for the book. Canadian naturalist Fred Bruemmer wrote the text.

EMQ Foundation appoints financial development V.P.

Donna M. Lynd is the new vice president of financial development for the Eastfield Ming Quong Foundation, the fundraising arm of EMQ, Northern California's largest nonprofit mental health center for troubled children and their families.

Lynd, formerly EMQ Foundation's senior development officer, has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit management, including work with the former Senior Coordinating Council in Los Gatos as well as the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley and the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County.

Salon owner earns national certification in advanced cosmetology

Jeanne Denice, owner of Salon Los Gatos, became one of California's first national certified cosmetologists earlier this year when she passed a special exam on advanced cosmetology studies at the National Cosmetology Association convention, held in Long Beach.

The NCA and its state affiliate, the California Cosmetology Association, are working together to certify every licensed cosmetologist in California.

Denice has worked in Los Gatos for 25 years. She is a member of the board of directors of the CCA, past president of the Santa Clara Valley Cosmetology Association and a recipient of the CCA's President of the Year Award.
