Concert tickets go on sale

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Concert Association is selling tickets and subscriptions for its 51st season--four performances from November 1998 to April 1999.

All concerts take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Los Gatos High School Prentiss Brown Auditorium, except for the Feb. 14 concert, which is held across the street at the First United Methodist Church of Los Gatos.

The first concert on Nov. 8 features LeRoy Villanueva, a baritone known for his singing of both Baroque and contemporary works. He has had roles with the San Francisco Opera, the Grand Theatre de Geneve and the Opera de Paris Bastille.

Next on tap is the San Jose Wind Symphony, performing symphonic band music and contemporary selections on Jan. 10. Now celebrating its 40th season with founding conductor Darrell Johnston, the SJWS consists of both amateur and professional musicians from many backgrounds.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, young pianist Robert Thies tickles the ivories on Feb. 14. Winner of the 1996 International Prokofiev Piano Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia, Thies gives frequent recitals at many concert venues.

On April 25, organ virtuoso Aram Basmadjian fills the auditorium with a diverse program of spirited sounds from his own four-manual Allen pipe organ, which he takes with him on tour.

In his weekly "Our Town" column in the Los Gatos Weekly-Times, the late Bob Aldrich once wrote: "There's not a better musical bargain to be found than a season ticket for the [LGSCCA] concerts in the Los Gatos High School auditorium."

Season tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for senior citizens, $10 for students and $85 for the family plan, which admits two adults and any number of students. For tickets or more information, call Ray Strong at 377-1106.
