Road to Williamsport could start in Los Gatos

The road to Williamsport starts in Los Gatos. Or at least it could.

Because to get to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in August, a team has to start out by winning at the district level. And Los Gatos will host just such a tournament beginning July 7.

The Los Gatos Little League will host the District 12 tournament, hoping to send an all-star team of 12-year-olds on its way to Little League Baseball's biggest event.

The Los Gatos entry will open tournament play on July 7 when it hosts Saratoga in a 5:30 p.m. game at Baggerly Field at Blossom Hill Park.

Members of the Gatos 12-year-old all-star team include Cory Graham and J.P. Grist of the Pirates, David Holtzman and Nick Perrone of the Indians, Jason Livingstone and Michael Robards of the Yankees, Danny Politi of the Cubs, Wes Piper of the A's, Chad Rabello of the Giants, Russell Laubach and Tyler Burke of the Marlins and Matt Martini, Marc Helleboid and Chris Danser of the Expos.

The team will be managed by Randy Frey of the Pirates, and Ira Holtzman of the Indians is the coach.

11-year-old all-stars

The 11-year-old all-stars open district action on June 30, 5 p.m., when they face the winner of the Almaden-Saratoga first-round game at the Union Little League field.

Making up the squad will be Kenny Rodrigues and Jordan Senner of the Cubs, Logan Schafer of the Pirates, Kyle Jensen of the Yankees, Josh Miceli and Kyle Bergland of the Rangers, Jack Wall and Jeff Delva of the Expos, Mike Brienzo of the Marlins, Nathaniel Henry of the Indians and Jeremy Bays, Kevin McCarty and Erik Rollin of the Giants.

Drew Miceli of the Rangers is the manager and Mike Bays of the Giants is the coach.

10-year-old all-stars

The two Los Gatos 10-year-old all-star teams play each other in the first round of the district tournament. The clubs will collide at 10 a.m. on June 27 at the Cambrian Park Little League field.

Players selected to the 10-year-old "A" team include Danny Sullivan of the A's, Rusty Wall and Forrest Gallien of the Expos, Matt Perrone of the Indians, David Pavicich of the Padres, Justin Schafer and Danny Frey of the Pirates, Derek Thomas of the Yankees, Marty Mullins and Louis Santoro of the Cubs and Jake Schonig, Trevor Campbell and A.J. Comeau of the Giants.

Dan Kropp is the manager of the squad and Sean Sullivan is his coach.

Brad Krouskup is the manager of the 10-year-old "B" all-star team. Members of his squad include Brandon Barnett of the A's, Nick Politi of the Cubs, Michael Dundurs and Zach Sylvester of the Indians, Scott Sanders of the Marlins, Sam Dickinson and Brett Krouskup of the Padres, Dylan Burke and Daniel Silva of the Pirates, Navneet Hakhu and Cody Sanford of the Rangers and Robbie LaBouff of the Yankees.

9-year-old all-stars

The Gatos 9-year-old all-star team will open District 12 play on June 27, 12:30 p.m., against Saratoga at the Branham Hills Little League field.

Playing for the 9-year-old 'star team will be Kyle Blair of the A's, Wes Howell of the Cubs, Eric McDonald of the Padres, Alex Zanotto of the Giants and Noah Henry of the Indians in the major division; Stephen Stege and Sean Wasserman of the Giants, Tim Sweeney of the White Sox, Ben Hintz and Colby Moore of the Reds and Jake Jensen of the Royals in the AAA division; and Bricklin Foley of the Cardinals and Mitch Benedetti of the Rangers in the AA division.

The team is managed by Bob Moore and coached by Beau Hintz.

8-year-old all-stars

Los Gatos is currently playing host to the 8-year-old-tournament, and entered two teams in the event. The tourney championship game is slated for June 29, 5 p.m., at the Los Gatos Little League field.
