Council delays two agenda items

Coucilmembers pushed back a decision on hiring a consulting company for the upcoming general plan survey last week. The council wanted to get a better sampling of work by the two finalists for the $32,360 contract.

Councilmembers are leaning toward Half Moon Bay-based Godbe Research & Analysis. The survey, which is scheduled for this fall, will take a more in-depth look at issues in the town by hosting focus groups, conducting a random telephone survey and sending out a mail-back business survey.

The council should make a final choice July 6.

Final approval for Calvary Church's architecture and site application was continued to July 6. James Lowe, who is appealing the design, asked to reschedule the hearing to a night when the full council is present. Jan Hutchins and Randy Attaway were absent.

Teacher collecting old computers

What's the best thing to do with that old PC collecting dust and cobwebs at the back of the closet?

Monte Sereno resident Aldene Gordon has an idea--give it to her. Gordon, who teaches elementary school in the Oak Grove School District, is spending her summer trying to round up at least 30 old PCs for underprivileged students in her district where single parents working two jobs are not uncommon and only about 5 to 10 percent of households have computers.

Specifically, Gordon wants old CPUs (at least a 386, please), monitors, peripherals or keyboards, in working condition. She adds that the equipment makes a good tax write-off.

Gordon can be reached at 395-6611, or via email at aldenegordon@world-net.att.net.
