Los Gatos Weekly-TimesPoets should get pens readyJust in case El Niño didn't bring enough of the stuff into our lives, Poetry for Everyone has chosen "Rain" as the theme for its Bob Aldrich Memorial Poetry Contest. Deadline for the competition, whose winner will wear the crown of Poet Laureate of Los Gatos, is July 31. To enter the contest, poets and aspiring poets should submit three poems of 25 lines or less. One poem must focus on the rain theme, and this poem will be more heavily weighted by the judges. Those age 17 and younger are invited to compete in the junior division for which the rules are the same. The contest is now named for Bob Aldrich, the Los Gatos Weekly-Times columnist who died last summer. Aldrich was an enthusiastic supporter of Mary Foster's Poetry for Everyone group, and he twice was named Poet Laureate of the town. Winners will be announced at the Aug. 23 Music in the Plaza program. Judges will be Leigh Weimers, columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, John Robertson of Pro Color in Los Gatos and Dale Bryant, editor of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times. Entries should be sent to Forbes Mill Museum, in care of co-chairwomen Mary Foster and Carolanne Blisard, 75 Church St., Los Gatos, 95030.
