Campbell wants to protect park funds

On June 12, Congressman Tom Campbell introduced H.R. 3619, a bill to eliminate from the budget the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The fund was set up in 1964 to pay for projects that preserve or increase the national park system.

Complaining that congress continually raids the fund for other purposes, Campbell proposed to take them out of the budget. "By taking the fund off-budget, we will ensure that these monies will truly be spent as originally intended," Campbell said.

Sher plans town meeting

State Sen. Byron Sher will hold a special Town Hall meeting June 28 for seniors at the Campbell Community Center's Roosevelt Redwood Room.

Walter Bortz, a septuagenarian and author of "We Live Too Short and Die Too Long" will deliver the keynote address.

Then a panel of experts will discuss Medi-Gap insurance and legislation affecting seniors.

PG&E warns about imposters

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. warns customers to be leery of anyone who asks to come into their homes for a service call without a scheduled appointment. Usually, PG&E won't send an employee unless the customer makes an appointment.

And customers should still ask for company identification, which includes the name and photograph of a PG&E employee. If the person doesn't have a company I.D., PG&E says, customers should refuse to open the door and should inform the police.

Customers can call PG&E to verify an employee's identity: (800) 743-5000.
