Cathy Carter brings her guitar and a program of folk music and popular standards to Music in the Plaza June 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Carter is a former junior tennis star turned singer. Until she completed high school, she was training for a professional tennis career, with encouragement from her father, tennis pro Nick Carter of Los Altos. But, says Carter, whenever her father grounded her for not paying enough attention to tennis, she stayed in her room and played her guitar. Carter has sung at many local venues, including the Toll House and Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. She's also performed with such headliners as Jimmie Rodgers and Nancy Wilson.
