SummerHill goes to council

SummerHill Homes, which has been trying for more than a year to put a planned development on the site of a former orchard on Blossom Hill Road, will seek final approval for the project at the July 6 Town Council meeting.

SummerHill's proposal is to build 43 new homes, down from almost 50 last year. Critics say the density is too high, but others say that the development is too well-designed to pass up, and point out that the developers want to build on 20 acres and turn over the remaining 85 acres of their land to the town.

Calvary Church is also on the agenda, seeking final approval for its remodel plans.

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St.

Police arrest teen armed with knife

Following their response June 28 to a 911 call, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police arrested a knife-wielding 17-year-old male.

At 8:22 p.m., officers responded to Mojonera Court after someone called 911 to report skinheads were after him. The homeowners were outside and unaware of the call, so police searched the house.

When one officer opened a closet door, the suspect charged at him with a butcher knife. According to Sgt. Mike Barbieri, the officer fired in self-defense but missed the suspect. Police say the suspect broke in to the house through a window.

The suspect was combative during and after his arrest. Because of injuries he sustained before and after entering the house, and because police suspected he was under the influence of a stimulant, he was treated at Valley Medical Center and then booked at Juvenile Hall on charges of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
