SCM Microsystems names new executive

Los Gatos-based SCM Microsystems recently appointed Robert J. Merkert Sr. as director of new business development in the security products division. SCM produces products and technologies for secured access and control of digital information.

Merkert holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering and has nearly 15 years of engineering, marketing and management experience in the computer and technology fields.

He is responsible for expanding SCM's leadership position as a provider of smart card-based security solutions, a technology that has value in many fields, including the health and medical industries.

Technology firm appoints officer

SCM Microsystems of Los Gatos, a producer of technologies for secured access to digital information, recently named John Niedermaier as vice president of finance and chief financial officer.

After 17 years of financial experience in technology, manufacturing and service organizations, Niedermaier is now responsible for financial planning and analysis.

Health library marks its seventh anniversary

The Medical Resource Facility of Los Gatos, a nonprofit consumer health and medical information center, is celebrating its seventh anniversary. In recognition of this event, BankAmerica Foundation, Comerica Bank-California and the Junior League of San Jose have provided donations to further enhance the resources for residents of the Santa Clara Valley.

Each organization made a commitment via their donations to fund specific projects to meet the health-information needs of the local community. The projects produced include the BankAmerica Foundation of Women's Health Collection, the Comerica Bank-California CD-ROM Collection and the Junior League of San Jose Computer Enhancement Project.

Accountant recognized in national directory

Jeffrey S. Froshman, a certified public accountant, has been approved for inclusion in the 1997-98 edition of the National Directory of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals.

Froshman, a managing partner of the Los Gatos and Soquel CPA firm of Froshman & Billings Accountancy Corp., is also an adjunct professor at CSU-Monterey Bay.
