The Prowler

Given enough time, it seems that most things old--or at least historical--are new again.

Last week the Prowler mentioned that members of the National Civil War Association will be firing a cannon during the San Jose Wind Symphony's 4th of July performance on the lawn of Los Gatos High School. It turns out that members of the same group will also be in Saratoga that day-- joined by members of the American Civil War Association--to set up Union and Confederate encampments and re-enact military tactics and battles.

It's all part of the "edutainment" scheduled for the second annual Saratoga Hometown Fourth of July celebration, noon to 5 p.m. at Villa Montalvo. Other fun stuff includes costumed members of the community disguised as figures from history.

Not everyone who loves dressing up and acting does so to re-create historical moments on the field--some do it on stage. Among these theatrical individuals is the cast of Me and My Girl, the 1930s-era British musical comedy currently being performed by the West Valley Light Opera Association. There are always a few Los Gatans in this group's performances, and lots of great talent overall. 268-3777 gets you tickets and information.

For those whose skills don't quite fit the mold of acting, the Santa Clara County Fair might be just the ticket. Fair folks are looking for amateur performers who do things like sing, play musical instruments, dance, juggle, act silly or do acrobatic and other feats. Although this particular animal is intelligent and independent, there might even be a fair venue for stupid pet tricks. Call 298-2644 for info on performing.
