    New officials appointed

Town Council members made appointments to boards, commissions and committees.

Thea Hayden, Erna Schloh and Mary Tomasi-Dubios were installed on the Arts Commission, and Elke Groves was re-appointed.

Rita Baum and Mary King were re-appointed to the Library Board, Tom Kane to the Board of Appeals, and Peggy Dallas to the Architectural Standards Committee.

Councilmembers also appointed two new members to the Parks Commission, Richard Konrad and Alan Orr--trouble is, there was only one vacancy.

The Parks and Public Works department says it may ask one of the two new appointees to serve as a non-voting alternate.

    Monte Sereno cancels meetings

Obsessive Monte Sereno City Council watchers--we know you're out there--should take note: Councilmembers have canceled their first meetings of July, August and September. They will, however, keep their second scheduled meetings for each of those months.

Councilmembers decided to accommodate vacations, and also the first meetings in July and September both fall on days after three-day weekends.

The council usually meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is July 20.

    Calling all green thumbs

The county Home Composting Education Program is looking for volunteers who want to train to work in the program, which does public outreach programs for adults and children on backyard composting and worm composting.

Deadline to apply is Aug. 11. Call 299-4147.
