Chamber director: Richard Worn
Richard Worn's chamber group performs on July 13By Kristin Kusumoto After a peripatetic lifestyle, musician and former Los Gatan Richard Worn felt ready to settle down. So he recently formed the San Francisco-based Worn Chamber Ensemble. "I've wanted to put my own group together for a long time," he said of his young ensemble, which will be giving a July 13 performance at Le Petit Trianon Theatre in San Jose. Worn said that he has been playing the double bass since his days at Fisher Middle School. In 1981 he graduated from Los Gatos High School and later earned a master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. His parents are Donald and Ethel Worn of Los Gatos. Worn does double duty as both a musician and the director of the Worn Chamber Ensemble. He takes care of all the group's administrative tasks, from sending out mailings to organizing the programs, he said. The upcoming concert will consist of classical music selected from the 20th century, according to Worn. "It's a body of repertoire that is greatly neglected in programming," he explained. "A lot of times, it's challenging to listen to." The ensemble will perform works by Martino, Loeffler, Prokofiev and Varese. Guest musicians include Casey Hill on oboe and pianist Craig Bohmler, a Los Gatos resident, musician, teacher and composer. Other instruments featured in the performance are the viola, violin and clarinet, with David Milnes conducting. The concert takes place July 13 at 4 p.m. in Le Petit Trianon Theatre, 72 N. Fifth St., San Jose. Admission is $10. For more information, call 354-2944.
