    Independence Day

The children living near Alta Vista Elementary School celebrated Independence Day this year by holding their own parade. The event, the idea of eight neighborhood moms, drew approximately 300 people, said organizer Ronda Prothro. The women distributed hundreds of flyers the week before. Between 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. on July 4, kids of various ages rode decorated bicycles, scooters, motorized cars and strollers through Blossom Valley, Taft, Coronet and Westchester drives.
