Dorothy Swanson
Los Gatos resident Dorothy Nada Swanson died May 28 at the age of 96.
Born Sept. 9, 1904, in San Jose, Swanson first moved to Los Gatos when she married Paul Swanson, who worked in the Ford dealership business for 33 years until his death in 1965. She later moved to Saratoga for a time, then returned to Los Gatos.
Swanson was an active member of the Tuesday Club, the History Club of Los Gatos, the Zora Nile Club, Eastern Star and several bridge groups. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Survivors include daughter Marianne Light of Del Mar; son Robert Swanson of Saratoga; grandchildren Steve Swanson of Monte Sereno, Bruce Swanson of Los Gatos, Alison King of San Diego and Brian Light of Sudbury, Mass.; also nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services have been held.
Veva Benson
Los Gatos resident Veva Shirk Benson died June 15 from injuries she suffered in an automobile accident. She was 84.
Benson was born Sept. 25, 1916, in Willits and grew up in Visalia. She spent most of her life as a schoolteacher, instructing on all grade levels. Her most recent position was at Los Gatos High School. "She was a loving, kind teacher and friend who touched many lives," her family says of her.
Benson was preceded in death by her first husband, Austin Cooper, and her second husband, Albert Musick. Survivors include husband Harry Benson of Los Gatos; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Mary Jane Cooper of San Jose; daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Steve Turner of Anchorage, Alaska; stepdaughters Margaret Benson of Santa Cruz and Elizabeth Gomez of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Carolyn Fulks, Sharon Kimont and Keith, Byron and Erin Turner; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; twin sister Vera Feaver of Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held in Los Gatos at a later date.
