    The Prowler

Any establishment catering to critters gets a whisker-twitch of approval from the Prowler. One of the best, at least to this finicky feline, is The Pet Spa. Now entering its sixth year, the spa is also entering some plush new digs.

Formerly at 1516 Pollard Road in Los Gatos, it's moved a stone's throw to 1466 Pollard Road, former location of the Backyard Bird Feeder. To celebrate their move, and to show off the spa's new Doggie Daycare Center, the humans who run The Pet Spa are holding an open house on July 14, from noon to 5 p.m. Free refreshments--for humans as well as dogs--will be served, and each visitor can select a free pet toy to take home. The Prowler hears there may even be games and prizes!

The new daycare co-managers will be available for questions, as will Donna Johns, owner of DJ's Clever Canines and the spa's in-house trainer for the past five years. Incidentally, The Pet Spa--as its name suggests--also offers cushy services such as dog and cat grooming and boarding. There's even a place for small animals like rabbits and rodents. For the full scoop (not to be confused with a full pooper-scooper), call 408.379.5520 or 408.379.8911.

Not content with simply climbing trees, this arboreal cat also likes to know what those trees are. For those who share the Prowler's interest (in trees, not climbing), the nonprofit National Arbor Day Foundation has just the thing--a pocket guide to the 157 trees that grow in the western United States. It's available for $3, which can be sent to "What Tree Is That?", National Arbor Day Foundation, Nebraska City, Neb. 68410. There's more info online at www.arborday.org.
