The Prowler
It's often been said animals have an uncanny forewarning that an earthquake is coming, from seconds to minutes before the ground actually starts moving. The Prowler was definitely one of those critters when the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake rumbled into town on Oct. 17 at 5:04 p.m.
Although hard to believe, we're already upon the quake's 10-year anniversary. Not one to let time fly without a suitable remembrance, the Los Gatos Museum Association plans to open an exhibit on the Loma Prieta earthquake at Forbes Mill Regional History Museum later this summer. The LGMA is looking for people with interesting quake-related stories, photographs or objects they'd be willing to share with the community. For more info, call the museum office at 395-7375 or drop an email to lgmuseums@aol.com.
Although not a museum, Frame It Art & Design on University Avenue looks the part lately, thanks to its display of original paintings by three area artists. Working with the theme "The Spirit of Los Gatos," Liz Allen, Remarque Loy and Jan Schafir use various media to portray their favorite scenes, places and characters of our town. While checking out this cool exhibit, be sure to meet new owners and British imports John and Sara Agg.
Since this cat is on a roll, here's one more mention of a right-brained event: now through Aug. 27, Santa Cruz Mountains resident Linda Bushell Spencer is the current artist exhibiting in the Los Gatos Arts Commission's Art in the Council Chambers program. The chambers are downstairs at 110 E. Main St. in the Civic Center, and are open during normal business hours. Call 354-6820 for more info.
