Los Gatos Rowing Club hosts regatta on July 20

The U.S. Rowing Southwest Regional Masters Regatta will take place July 20 on Lexington Reservoir, the Los Gatos Rowing Club has announced.

The race is expected to draw as many as 350 athletes from as far away as Arizona and Hawai`i. Races start at 7 a.m. that day. In all, 34 races are planned that day, with a new race starting every 10 minutes. Spectators are welcome.

California Cafe closes for remodel

The California Cafe at Old Town closed July 7 in preparation for the remodeling of the shopping center.

"We essentially will be building a whole new restaurant," said general manager Larry Stepek. The new building will include a larger, brighter dining room, a new bar and lounge and an expanded patio dining area.

Monte Sereno plans ZIP survey

After City Council member Joel Gambord asked postal officials for a unique Monte Sereno ZIP code, the Monte Sereno City Council decided to find out what residents think about the matter. (They've already learned that the idea is unpopular with the postmaster.)

In a July issue of the city newsletter, City Manager Gay Strand included a poll to test public opinion on the ZIP code issue. It won't take long for the postmaster to learn the results: Residents who want to participate must clip out the survey and mail it back to the city offices.

Gambord has become a champion for Monte Sereno's ZIP code drive. He says the city needs its own number to establish an identity separate from its neighbors.
