Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe ProwlerAlthough the Prowler is obviously not an architect or contractor, simply walking about town is enough to give this cat some opinions about various local structures. One of the funniest sights this cat took in recently was that cute-as-a-bug house on Nicholson Avenue. The tiny house's huge photo gracing last week's Los Gatos Weekly-Times prompted the Prowler to check out the 514-square-foot pad. Hopefully the family moving into that humble abode doesn't have any cats--when not prowling outdoors, we felines like to rule from within a castle, not a cottage. Speaking of castles, another reason the tiny house--smaller than anything else in the entire county--amused this cat was the simple irony of its existence in a town known for the splendor and size of many of its homes. Poetry for Everyone, a group founded by Los Gatan Mary Foster to make poetry appealing and applicable to all poetry writers and readers, is accepting submissions for its eighth annual poetry contest. The winner of the contest will be proclaimed Los Gatos's Poet Laureate of the Year and honored at a public ceremony later this summer. Last year's winner was the late Bob Aldrich. Would-be laureates should submit three poems (any style) of 25 lines or less. One poem must be on the theme "The Joy of Reading." The other two poems may be on any subject the poet wishes. Poets under the age of 18 compete in the Junior Division; all other poets compete in the Senior Division. Deadline is Aug. 1. Mail entries to Poetry for Everyone, Forbes Mill Museum, 75 Church St., Los Gatos, 95030. For more information, call Mary Foster at 395-7375.
