Former nurse will face hearing on alleged sex crimes

Richard Thorvald Lucero, a former Mission Oaks Hospital nurse, will appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 15. Lucero was arrested by Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police in August 2000 on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment. Lucero allegedly inappropriately touched three co-workers and two patients who were sedated and undergoing fertility treatments.

At the hearing, the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to proceed.

Saratoga Library to move during construction

The Saratoga Community Library will be closed in August and reopen Sept. 4 behind Sacred Heart Church on Saratoga Avenue. The library will be housed in a portable building while the current building undergoes expansion and renovation, expected to end in early 2003.

At the temporary location, there will be no community room, a smaller selection of materials, and children's storytimes will be in other city buildings. Library hours will not change.

Los Gatos Arts Commission to hold meeting

On July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St., the Los Gatos Arts Commission and Art Selection Panel will hold a meeting on how they are working to bring more public art to Los Gatos. There will be presentations by artists Marilyn Kuksht and Philip Lange and a preview and discussion of sculptures donated to the town.
